This volume and the exhibition for which it is published reveals and examines work created in and about Hawaii by two of America's most renowned twentieth-century artists. Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams both visited the Islands at the height of their powers: O'Keeffe in 1939 to create illustrations for print advertisements for the Hawaiian Pineapple Company (now the Dole Company, and Adams in 1948 on a Guggenheim Fellowship, and again in 1957 and 1958 on assignment for Bishop National Bank of Hawaii (now First Hawaiian Bank). Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams: The Hawaii Pictures features in dialogue a selection of works created in and about Hawaii by these two American masters.
